🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Hellooooo Keepers, how's it going? October isn’t over yet, aaaand spooky season is just about to be in a full swing! So we’ve decided to skip the devlog this month because we want to celebrate Halloween with you in a slightly different way.

We’re sharing a few horror game recommendations handpicked by the Digital Happiness team, ranging from hidden gems you might not have heard of, to titles that we believe deserve a lot more attention! And that’s not to say we don’t appreciate the mainstream titles you’re already familiar with; we have a soft spot for those, too!

Alright, let's get into it!

1. Laplace’s No Ma (1987)

It’s basically a JRPG, turn-based, with a more grounded Shin Megami Tensei style. You can earn money from taking a picture of a ghost! What’s not cool about that? Hmm, I wonder if Linda can do that someday :)

And since it’s not officially released in English, well, you can play it any way you can!

2. Haunting Ground (2005)

What’s not to love: a lovely protagonist with a dog! The game's voyeuristic themes would be offensive by today's standards, but somehow we missed that kind of era when games were made just to be purely entertainment, with no pushing agenda whatsoever.

3. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (2002)

The sanity effects that break the fourth wall that were being used in the game are definitely our inspiration for the encounter with DreadOut’s lady in red at the end of Act 1 with the reserve controller, when dealing with the swarm of cockroaches!

4. Kuon (2004)

We all love souls-like games from FromSoftware (what a tedious sentence LOL). Do you guys know that they are also terrific at making Horror games? The atmosphere alone is over the rooftop. And this one is right up our alley.

5. Rule of Rose (2006)

It's a 2006 survival horror video game developed by Punchline and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. Set in Britain in 1930, the plot revolves around a nineteen-year-old woman named Jennifer, who finds herself trapped in a world dominated by young girls who have formed a social hierarchy known as the Red Crayon Aristocrats. We really love this game! Haha, so we insisted on putting it into part of our love letter in our DreadOut game manual some of you probably remember :D

Bonus: Our director’s pick!

Koudelka (1999)

We don't know if you guys had born around this time, but what’s not to love? It’s Final Fantasy meets horror game!

Ponytail-style hair? A bit familiar with our Linda...?? Hmm, I wonder where that inspiration came from :p  Alright, enough from us. Now, it’s your turn! Out of all the horror games you’ve played, are there any you think are absolute must-plays that not many people know about? Or perhaps a horror game that has stayed with you long after you finished it?

Drop your recommendations in the comments! Who knows, you might introduce us to a game we’ve never played, or even provide some inspiration for our next spooky season!

Lastly, don't forget to follow us on Steam for more spook updates. Wishing you all a hauntingly good Halloween! 🦇 :DH
