Hello again, Home players!
Can you believe it's been fourteen years since Home launched!? And here we are, still updating it today. This 1.7.0 update brings new features, lots of under-the-hood improvements, and sets us up for another several years of maintenance.
When we released the game originally, we didn't realize we were going to be part of something — that something being a new boom of 2D indie horror that continues even today. We still see lots of "Home-likes" being released, and we play a lot of them! We still love indie horror games so much, and we hope this Halloween update spooks you all over again.
NEW FEATURES
Postmortem Mode — adds discoverable, in-game developer commentary hotspots that changes as you play
Behind-the-scenes gallery — accessible from the title screen, this gallery shows design sketches and more from the creation of the game
60 FPS gameplay — updates the entire game to run at a proper 60 FPS!
IMPROVEMENTS AND UPDATES
Improved Steam Deck support — better handles on-screen keyboard entry and native 1280x800 presentation
Improved controller support — should recognize and hot-swap controls and glyphs for popular controllers like the PS5 DualSense, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, etc. more reliably
Corrects various typos that somehow still lingered
Improves handling screens of different ratios
Allows for code entry for the safe across all platforms
Improves mouse-only controls to be smoother and just feel better
Fixes some instances were text didn't appear after unlocking certain doors
Fixes some rare crashes
Updates all menus to be high-res and properly accessible by all control schemes
IMPORTANT NOTE
This update currently removes support for community-created translations. This was done to normalize how we handle text, saves, etc. across multiple platforms for making debugging and some system functions more reliable (since Home is based on a single code base). We will consider re-enabling support for this feature in a future update, but please be patient with us as we are only two people!
