As fans of our games, we wanted to let you know about a new Kickstarter we've just launched. Back when Myst and Riven came out, we released books set in the universe of Myst, telling the story of Atrus before the events of the game. It became a series of three novels, the second telling the story of Atrus’s grandmother Anna, and her life with the D’ni civilization—the cavern where players can explore in Uru, and the work of Atrus and Catherine after Riven, working to rebuild the community of D’ni people. We wanted to create new luxe editions of these books, and so we've put together a Kickstarter to make that happen. You can pledge now to get the luxe editions, DRM-free copies of the ebooks, and many other great rewards.
Each of the books features new cover illustrations by Claire Hummel, and Myst: The Book of D’ni will have approximately 30% updated content, written by Harrison G. Pink under the supervision of Rand Miller and Cyan leadership. The books will have a number of additional features to make them look and feel their best, including spot color, a faux-leather cover, D’ni language footnotes, and more. Myst: The Book of Ti’ana will include gatefold art of Aitrus’s map to the surface as well. Here’s what will be included in all the Guild of Writers Deluxe Editions of the books:
But that’s not all! We have some incredible features that await you in higher tiers, including Guild Crest pins, an inspection page from the Guild of Maintainers signed by Rand Miller, D’ni Language variant covers with stunning crimson faux-leather covers and special foil treatment, and even replica printed ephemera from the books themselves. And of course, we’ve got plenty of stretch goals planned too. So far, we’ve surpassed nine of them! We’ll share more stretch goals as they continue to get funded. To celebrate the launch, Rand sat down with Adam Conover to talk all-things Myst and Cyan. They cover the original story of writing the novels, what revising them has meant, and what it means for Cyan as an independent studio to be around for 40 years.
