Performance
- About 2× the frame rate with big crowds. With 300 enemies on screen, frame rate went from ~55 to ~100–130 FPS in my tests, and a full frame dropped from ~17 ms to ~8–10 ms.
- Game logic about 55% cheaper at 300 enemies (~15 ms → ~6–7 ms per frame): enemies, map tiles, walls and the floor do much less work every frame.
- Rendering about 55% cheaper at 300 enemies (~3.3 ms → ~1.3–1.6 ms per frame).
- Smoother even with no enemies: a frame went from ~9 ms to ~4.5–6.5 ms.
- About 80% fewer objects in a map (~95,000 → ~19,000), so less memory use.
- Half the garbage per frame at 300 enemies (~115 KB → ~55 KB), which should mean fewer small stutters.
- Shorter freeze while a map loads: ~2.3 s → ~1.5–1.8 s on Plateau.
Measured on Plateau on an M4 Mac, with the same test before and after. Your numbers depend on your PC.
Changes you might notice
- Damage numbers: quick hits on the same enemy now merge into one number, and at most 100 numbers are on screen at once.
- Enemy glow removed: regular enemies no longer carry a light. Bosses keep theirs.
- Burn icon: burning enemies now show the animated flame on their health bar.
Fixes
- No more invisible walls in the final boss area.
- Enemies killed off-screen are now cleaned up properly and leave a corpse like the others.
If anything feels different or wrong (a skill missing targets, enemies acting strangely, a crash), please post it in the forums or on Discord with your character and map. Thanks for playing!
