I've been working through your reports and giving Swarm Grinder's systems, menus, and translations some much-needed attention. This update brings the move to Unity 6, important save fixes, clearer stats, and a big cleanup of Korean text.
Thank you to everyone who reported bugs, shared screenshots, and sent me saves to investigate. Those helped me track down several of these issues!
Unity 6 & Technical Updates
- Upgraded Swarm Grinder to Unity 6.
- Updated the navigation system and fixed an issue where enemies from newly opened cells could appear at their previous death locations.
- Updated the save system and verified that existing saves remain compatible.
- Resolved compilation errors and outdated API usage.
- Added automated checks for missing content, translation errors, and font coverage.
Save Slots & Garage Transactions
- Fixed save-slot switching so crystals, Workshop points, Garage equipment, achievements, and character selection load from the correct slot.
- Fixed an issue where data left in memory from the previous slot could overwrite another slot's saves.
- Deleting the active slot now loads Slot 1, returns to the main menu, and requires you to select a slot before continuing.
- If the selected character is locked in the new slot, the game selects the first unlocked character.
- Simply loading a save no longer writes to save files.
- Garage repairs and sales now save your crystal balance immediately.
- The Workshop crystal display now updates when your balance changes, including after Garage repairs and sales.
Hornet Progress Recovery
An older Mac build could store progress in a local DefaultID folder instead of your Steam account's save folder. For affected players, this could make Hornet appear locked after updating.
- Added automatic recovery of Hornet's unlock, mastery, module slots, and skill progress from affected local saves into the matching existing Steam save slot.
- Recovery runs silently at startup and leaves the original save files untouched.
- Existing unlocked Hornet progress in Steam saves is preserved.
- Added build checks to ensure Steam builds include Steamworks.
Clearer Run End Stats
- Added skill icons above all five skill columns so you can see which skill each set of stats belongs to.
- Added a red Total heading, translated into all nine languages.
- Large values now use shorter formats such as 74.8K, 1.23M, and 2.15B.
- Widened and evenly spaced the columns to prevent numbers from overlapping.
- Centred the Mission Accomplished! and Mission Failed! titles inside the mission info box.
- Preserved the titles' animation timing and font size while correcting their final position.
Upgrade Text & Menu Improvements
- Fixed 51 broken translation tags across upgrades, items, cursed upgrades, and info boxes.
- Corrected five descriptions that contained another upgrade level's text or visible placeholders.
- Added missing unlock descriptions for 15 skills. These short unlock lines currently appear in English in every language.
- Fixed Wasp Nest's unlock description and Cooldown title, and added Stab's missing unlock-card title.
- Completed additional translations for Detonator, Count and Magazine tooltips, Hornet Poison, and Nest.
- Fixed incorrect text references for Ricochet and Plateau.
- Numbers now consistently use a decimal point across upgrade cards, the Build screen, and stats panels, regardless of your computer's region settings.
- Changing language now refreshes the full text of open level-up cards and the Workshop description panel.
- Fully translated the Workshop cost line into all nine languages.
- Fixed level-up card alignment so each value stays beside its stat, even when a long name wraps onto another line.
- Reroll and Cancel button text now stays on one line and scales down when needed.
- Long skill names and tag lines now scale to fit on the level-up screen.
- Fixed Hornet's unlock requirement to name Garden, matching the map's name in the game. The unlock requirement itself has not changed.
- Updated the Garage character row to reload rank data before displaying its badge, keeping it consistent with the selected character's banner.
Fonts & Accented Characters
- Added 44 missing characters to the main font, including accented letters and punctuation used in German, French, Spanish, and English.
- Preserved the positioning and line measurements of existing English and Turkish text.
- Fixed the German Change Profile button to display PROFIL ÄNDERN correctly.
- Fixed escaped character codes appearing in Stinger descriptions in German, French, Spanish, and Turkish.
Korean Language Cleanup
Korean had several issues that needed a closer look. This round covers both translation mistakes and how the text appears on screen.
- Removed broken invisible characters and fixed missing-character boxes.
- Corrected tags in 21 texts, restoring missing values, crystal icons, and Garage button icons.
- Fixed incorrect stat names and item descriptions.
- Corrected 213 texts and made recurring terms, including critical hits and rapid fire, consistent.
- Fixed incorrect numbers in Bulletstorm and Hornet overload descriptions and a mastery objective.
- Cleaned up line breaks and spacing in 222 texts, including skills, items, evolutions, gadgets, patch notes, and the roadmap.
- Fixed the credits where names ran together and the final section was missing.
- Adjusted the Korean credits spacing so the full list fits.
- Added font support for 18 missing characters.
- Korean words now wrap at spaces instead of breaking between syllables.
- Shortened two overflowing texts and corrected the loading-screen control labels.
Loading Screen & Credits
- The Loading text now disappears when the Start button becomes available.
- Removed the Back button from the credits screen. Esc and the controller's back button still close it.
I've also expanded the automated test suite to 43 tests to help catch these issues before they return.
If something still looks wrong—especially a translation, a menu layout, or your save progress—please let me know on Discord. Screenshots and details about your language and platform are always helpful.
Thanks for sticking with me and helping me improve Swarm Grinder! 🐝
