Every locomotive in SimRail so far has had one thing in common: cut the overhead line and the journey ends. The BR 285 changes that equation. It carries a 16-cylinder, 65-litre diesel engine producing 2200 kW (3000 hp), which drives a generator feeding the electric traction motors in the bogies. You get the familiar TRAXX handling, now with a power plant that answers to you rather than to the wire above.
What that means behind the controls: the same starting tractive effort as the electric E186, enough for a 3000-tonne train from a standstill, a top speed of 140 km/h, and a 4000-litre tank that keeps you running far beyond the nearest refuelling point. Heavy tank trains and long block freight are exactly the duties this machine was built for.
