This week we are introducing a long-requested feature that some passionate community members have been asking for for a long time: the tameable Kiwi.
Meanwhile, the team is busy putting the Great Hunts Elysium content through its final rounds of testing and polish, with external testing now underway.
We also have a sneak peek at a planned feature for next week: a Field Guide QoL pass, including new subcategories.
This week's feature wouldn't have happened without the support of one particularly dedicated player, who reminded us every week that tameable Kiwis could become a reality. Their dedication to the game and unwavering commitment to the idea helped inspire us to finally make it happen.
Notable Improvements:
- Fixing Bug where skinning any creature that drops ice with the obsidian knife would produce dummy water items
- Fixing issue where crafting with resources was not providing experiance, fixes cases such as the Polymeriser which would not provide any crafting experience when crafting items with oil
- Fixing issue with Cakes so that the platter and garishes do not highlight when looked at
- Improved the Deluxe Leather Saddle when skinned on the slinker as it wasn't acting as intended
- Fixed proxy mesh used in T4 food trough being stretched/scaled, use proper mesh from filled version instead. Added grain active crafting VFX
This Week: Tameable Kiwi
This week we are making the Kiwi a tameable companion that can be caught and domesticated with a snare trap. The Kiwi has a surprising amount of versatility, with a number of options based on how you want to specialize it. You can decide whether your feathered friend will be a cozy domestic helper around the base or a ferocious nighttime predator.
Being a nocturnal creature, the Kiwi is notably weaker and slower than comparable combat tames like the wolf during the day. However, if leveled up and talented towards fighting, it will prove to be significantly more ferocious than the wolf when the sun goes down.
If you would rather keep your cute Kiwi safe from harm, it still provides a lot of utility that shouldn't be ignored. Through talents, it grants a very substantial Carry Weight Capacity aura. The Kiwi is also a cuter way of solving your egg needs. Finally, if you opt to take your Kiwi on a midnight stroll, another talent provides an aura that will increase both Mining and Wood Felling Yield.
As hinted at earlier, Kiwis can be tamed using a Snare Trap and specialized Kiwi Bait, which are both crafted at the Ranching Station. The trap will need to be set in the forest (the biome Kiwis call home), the specialized bait will need to be attached, and then it is a matter of waiting for night and a Kiwi to come along. Your work and patience should be rewarded with a wild Kiwi taking the bait. Once trapped, the Kiwi will need to be fed with fresh carcasses to earn its trust. Remember it is still dangerous until tamed! If the Kiwi is fed, defended, and feels safe, the tame will succeed with time and you will have your own very helpful new feathery friend.
