Ahoy!
Caribbean Legend is about to turn three. The project will get its final patches and DLC — and then it ends.
But our story won't end. Quite the opposite — it's only beginning, because Caribbean Legend is now not just a game, but a franchise.
Now:
Two games, 11 DLCs.
Soon:
Caribbean Legend is getting a huge 2.0 update with new graphics, effects, and physics. And right after work on the project wraps up — an official modkit with a full-fledged IDE.
The modkit already looks so good and works so smoothly that sometimes it feels like you're looking at a Unity window, not Burya Engine.
Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates still has to figure out what it wants to be, but I believe in ReCon Team, so I expect at least 3–4 more major patches with fantastic new gameplay mechanics and quests.
A bit later:
In the coming years, at least one more big game will sail under the franchise flag. Maybe two. Maybe none. The world is a damn unstable place, after all.
Either way, the franchise isn't going anywhere.
More than that — it has grown so much that players, old and new alike, could clearly use a short guide to it.
Which game should you pick?

Both. They're different, they complement each other perfectly, and they're made by different teams.
Caribbean Legend is an uncompromising remake of the classic: gameplay-wise, it has drifted a long way from its roots. New players love that; veterans — not always. Today it's a huge modern RPG where most of the content is delivered in story mode. Complex, but approachable for a newcomer. Deep customization and character builds.
Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates is a faithful remaster of the classic. Classics stay great forever, so whether you loved the series back in the day or never touched it — you should absolutely give it a try. It's a fairly compact old-school RPG where most of the content lives in free-play mode. Very hardcore. A wide choice of protagonists and starting conditions.
Why so much DLC?
If you ask me — not nearly enough. ːcharles_happyː
But seriously: paid DLC is what keeps both our teams working, and every dollar goes right back into development.
Overall, my thinking hasn't changed in years:
- Every major free update comes with a DLC.
- No DLC is ever mandatory.
- Each DLC tries to build on a new mechanic from the free update it ships with.
- Or to bring the player real value some other way.
- Lifetime sales of one DLC buy three months of the team's work.
So far this approach has worked, and it's exactly what let me drag this whole circus this far.
Which means we'll keep going. Caribbean Legend will get 2 more DLCs, Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates — 3 or 4 more.
Why did the price of Caribbean Legend go up?
Yes — by 10% to 33%, depending on the region. What's more, don't expect record 75% discounts anytime soon — if you snagged it at $7.49, good on you.
I raised the price for three reasons:
- A big graphics update is coming, after which the game will look like a solid modern RPG — and it will be priced like one.
- In just under three years, the game has nearly doubled its content. Which means it's worth more.
- You can always lower a price; raising one is much harder. This was the perfect moment to test the new price in safe conditions, before the big sale season. If I hadn't taken the risk, I'd never have forgiven myself. Luckily, sales didn't dip — which means the game will live longer and give something new a chance to be born.
How do I pick up the content I'm missing at a discount?
Now here's where I've got good news for you. You have almost no chance of paying full price for anything in our franchise.
The bundles won't let you.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/81925/Caribbean_Legend__Age_of_Pirates/
This bundle works for newcomers and veterans alike. Own either game? Add the other at a discount. Or grab both at once. During sales it becomes an incredible deal — both games for pocket change.
It's for those who don't know the franchise well yet and want to fix that without putting their wallet at much risk. In other words, it's the “Starter Bundle”.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/55245/every_DLC_with_a_discount/
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/81990/every_DLC_with_a_discount/
These twin bundles let you pick up any DLC you're still missing — each game has its own. They're for those who enjoyed the game and want all of its DLC at once and for less, and for those who haven't played in a while and want to complete the collection. Only owners of the base games can access these bundles.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/81931/Complete_Franchise/
This bundle includes every game and DLC in the franchise and offers a great-value upgrade from any starting point. Say you're missing one DLC for Caribbean Legend and have nothing at all for CL: AoP — then this bundle is for you. Or maybe you're rich and not in the habit of buying things piecemeal — you want everything, right now. Judging by this bundle's sales, there are quite a few of you. A very useful and very cool bundle.

And these two beauties stand apart. They can only be bought whole — and only by new players. The most cost-effective way to get the entire franchise is to buy the two Complete Editions separately. That's thanks to a large permanent discount that applies to these editions even outside the big sales.
They're for new players who aren't afraid to take the plunge and like their library complete, no compromises. A big permanent discount is their reward for the risk.
That's all… for today.
Naturally, the bundles' contents will change. The plans — even more so.
But lately I've seen quite a few fair questions from you, so I wanted to answer at least some of them.
See you in the 2.0 open beta!
Joruba, signing off.
