Welcome back to another Silica Development Blog!
This time we're bringing you something a lot of you have been asking for: a way to fight alongside your friends instead of against them. On top of that, we've got new options for managing your base, a handful of quality of life improvements, and another round of upgrades for the AI commanders.
Let's take a look!
Cooperative Strategy Mode
You can now team up with your friends and take on the AI together in the new Cooperative Strategy mode, which doesn't care about fairness.
The host selects the difficulty, so you can make it as challenging as you want.
Player controlled units are also a bit stronger and have a bit more health, because surviving longer on the battlefield simply feels better than dying to the first shot.
Sell Your Structures
Made a mistake, or just need some resources back?
Structures can now be sold directly from the build menu instead of being destroyed.
You won't get back everything you've spent, as the structure's health affects the amount you receive, and the building goes through a proper deconstruction animation before it's gone.
Quality of Life Improvements
We've also added a number of smaller changes that should make commanding your forces a lot smoother:
- Double-clicking a unit selects every unit of that type currently on your screen
- Production structures can be multi-selected, letting you queue units across all of them at once
- Getting into vehicles is noticeably less fiddly
- You'll now get a notification when resource storage is full
- Unit orders can now be found directly in the UI
Smarter AI Commanders
- AI commanders have been worked on deeply, so you can now expect them to:
- Expand their territory
- Stage attacks before committing
- Cancel attacks that aren't going their way
- Change strategies if their previous attacks failed
- And be much smarter in general...
The result is an opponent that plans ahead instead of simply throwing units at you.
Better Air Unit AI
The skies have seen some improvements too:
- Dreadnoughts will now circle around their targets
- AI bombers have improved approach and drop logic
