Today we announce the winners of our first Official Clip Contest

A little while ago now we ran a community competition focused around capturing gameplay from either PCE on PC or Primal Carnage: Evolution. There were several categories and we had A LOT of entries to look through (sorry it's taken a while to review them!)

We'll be reaching out to the creators via Discord soon to grant their rewards.

Now, on with the show...!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Here are some of the clips we really liked but which didn't quite make it to the finals. As usual, it was hard narrowing down the list of winners. You guys never fail to entertain...

Coolest Category honorable mentions:

[dynamiclink href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp8Ypm0zKRk"]There were many more we'd like to highlight, but we've used up enough space already. Also, some submitters either didn't upload their videos to YouTube or have since taken them down unfortunately.

We've also got a Clip Contest playlist on the official Primal Carnage channel that we're continuing to add videos to, if you want to get a concentrated dose of community carnage. Next, we have the winners!

CONTEST WINNERS

ːsteamthumbsupː BEST LONG CLIP

The main focus of this contest was biased towards short form content, usually 30 seconds or so. However, for this category we allowed people to go longer. Some entries were more suited to the Cinematic section than being purely judged on length, though.

Which is why the winner is about one minute long...

Most of the longer clips submitted revolved around dino players getting impressive kill streaks, but this Rex player stood out to us for the brass balls on display. It's an unrelenting feeding frenzy by "Harry" who tanks an army of Pyros in a quest for more food.

ːsteamthumbsupː BEST SHORT CLIP

The short clip category is for videos less than 30 seconds long, this did overlap a bit with submissions in other categories so we explicitly considered videos that were submitted with the short clip tag.

This particular entry by "TallBalls" actually enters slow motion, but still managed to stay short and entertaining. We really felt for that poor Oviraptor...

ːsteamthumbsupː MOST CINEMATIC CLIP

We encouraged players to use features like spectator mode to create some cool shots in this category. Some people didn't get the memo, but the ones who did really went all-out. Probably the most artful creation submitted was by "Terex" here, who was able to wrangle a whole cast together for this one...

ːsteamthumbsupː FUNNIEST CLIP

Okay, this was hard. There were a lot of hilarious moments submitted, but most of them were just player ragdolls getting up to mischief. Funny as those were, we disregarded that type of clip when it came to selecting the best since they were essentially bug reports in our view.

The overall winner of Funniest Clip goes to Shrew for this.. ahem... accident:

Now that's something you don't see everyday. A mixture of flying skill(?) and hilariously bad luck for the unfortunate human.

ːsteamthumbsupː COOLEST CLIP

If there's one thing we've found out about the community with this contest, it's the level of kudos you guys give players who pull off pyro bomb drops. Usually, those are multi-kills by Flyers, but every once in a while you get someone who manages to do this with a Bruiser and just have to sit back in awe.

We salute you, Sarkza!

Short but sweet, we felt this was the most impressive combo of luck and dexterity out of the bunch.

PRIZES

Winners of each category will be awarded any in-game skin of their choosing on PC, or a special item unlock code on PlayStation, along with platform-specific gift cards to redeem...

Creators of the best Funniest, Short and Long Clips receive a $50 Steam Gift Card or PlayStation Gift card depending on their platform.

Most Cinematic and Coolest Clip creators receive either a $100 Steam Gift Card or PlayStation Gift Card depending on their platform.

We'll be messaging the lucky finalists soon on Discord to discuss receiving your rewards. Those using Steam will need to provide their Steam ID / a link to their profile.

AAaand that's another community contest wrapped. Really great efforts by all involved, it was a blast watching the mountain of clips you sent in and we look forward to doing more in future.

Thanks again to everyone who took part!

BETA NEWS

New updates continue to be deployed to the PCE Open Testing Beta app. After already implementing features such as dino drinking, the announcer, skillshots and bonus sandbox playables this past month, we're turning our attention to overhauling the HUD and menus.

We're hoping that the upcoming free Evolved Edition overhaul will bring in some new blood, so there is a How To Play section being added to the main menu for newcomers. This is being adapted from the menu we already created for Primal Carnage: Evolution on PlayStation...

Button reminders for important actions such as roaring and attacks will be included on the HUD, as well as the new character health indicator that both reminds you which class you're playing and changes depending on movement mode.

Those who want a bit less info on screen can swap elements out for a simpler HUD in the options menu.

Elsewhere, the collectable Intel system is fully up and running with pieces you can pick up around the maps and intel rewards for completing achievements. There are over 200 entries total, greatly expanding the backstory of the Primal Carnage world.

We'll be continuing to polish and improve new features like these in OT for the next few weeks, as we prepare for them being added to the main game.

The new Dual Repeaters weapon has already been released for Evolution on PlayStation and will be included with the next major Steam update along with everything else.

That's a quick look at what's brewing in the beta lately, we hope the new content will be in the live game by the end of September if everything goes to plan.

Also in recent news, we upgraded the public SDK tools for the first time in years. If you're interested in making custom maps or want to dive into making new skins for the latest weapons and characters, check out all the Extinction Editor changes here!

Once again, congratulations to our community Clip Contest winners!

We'll be running more contests in future on our official Discord so keep an eye out...

Thanks for Playing!
