As a small recognition of the 2 year anniversary, I've added 4 brand new cards to the game, and buffed a few existing cards. If you want a breakdown of the updates, then read on.
To confirm you're playing on the latest Version 1.3 (or higher), open Recesses and go to Game Options and check the upper left corner. If it's a lower version, just restart Steam and it should update automatically.
NEW CARDS
These four new cards each aim to fill gaps that I felt were missing, and boost strategies that needed some help. Here's all four of them:
If you want to explore them on your own, go for it! But if you want more details on the thought process behind them, here's some details on each card.
(There are spoilers in the explanations, so it's recommended to not read the spoilers if you haven't finished the game yet.)
- Created to give Cute another win-ability Battalien, since it only had one "real" one
- Also gives Kahaz Captain another card to synergize with when played "fairly"
- This card may bring along some of their elderly buddies to the gym sometimes too...
- Created to give Brepch Skinshedder ships a boost in strength, turning all of the setup cards into powerhouses after they've been used
- Also combos with other cards in smaller ways, like Katsi Captain, Tel-maq Elliptoid, and more
- Will always give star-rares a similar star-rare ability, so it can be good as backup if their powerful abilities get altered
- Created to give Elder ships a boost in strength, since if you have one or more in your ship, you automatically start with fewer than 8 cards
- Also gives Scary ships a fun build-around to get card advantage
- Can be helpful when trying to complete Tatiana's 4-card-only challenge to unlock Mika
- Created as another "odd" ability, since only having two felt... odd
- Another option to pick from with Tel-maq Geometree's win-ability, instead of Tel-maq Balancer or Tel-maq Hypercube being the right choice 99% of the time
- Also another option to combo with Katsi Captain, giving more choices for how to build that ship
Since it wouldn't be fair if only *you* got to use the new cards in battle, I've added them to some of the opponents' ships throughout the game. I've only added the cards to ships that already changed each time you faced them (opponents with non-changing ships did not get them). To see where, click/hover over the spoiler below:
(Spoilers for late game battles are included, so it's recommended not to read if you haven't finished the game yet.)
- Puuts Gym-Buddy can sometimes come up in most ships that are randomized, and ones that have Kahaz Captain
- Lethoggl Radiooze can sometimes come up in most ships that are randomized, and will almost always be paired with Brepch Skinshedder to activate it
- Sevir-Voidcaller can be the ships for Level 1 and Level 2 Ms. Raven and Mr. Whittier about 25% of the time.
- Tel-maq Polyhedron can sometimes come up in most ships that are randomized, and will almost always be paired with Puuts Partier to activate it
CARD CHANGES
I've also buffed/updated several cards a bit:
Ignix Soulburner is now 7 power (was 6), its ability now gives -1 power (was -2), and has been shifted to uncommon (from common). It was very similar to Puuts Cheersquad and Phlek Parasite, but it felt bad to use instead of them since it had 6 power instead of their 7. Now just use whichever your ship needs, without feeling bad!
Ignix Hellfang has been shifted to common (from uncommon). This was to make room for Ignix Soulburner.
Sevir Spy is now 6 power (was 4). As the game has evolved, anti-spaceship strategies that use cards like Ignix Hopetorcher, Oowoo Heartmelter, and more have gotten weaker, and making this not embarrassing to play at 6 power helps strengthen them a bit.
Sevir Pain-Gifter is now 6 power (was 5). This change puts it around the same level as Puuts Peptalker, Brepch Sogworm, Tel-maq Symmetree, and other cards that want to be played multiple times
Sevir Death-Piercer now removes all of the chosen Battalien's strengths too. This makes it mirror Brepch Gasbug more, and gives a potential reason to choose it with Sevir Recruiter in some situations. In fact, all these common/uncommon Scary buffs inadvertently give Sevir Recruiter a buff too...
Katsi Summonpurr is now 7 power (was 6). Since this is a build-around card, it should reward you for playing it, and at 6 power it felt like it wasn't quite there. Now at 7 power, it feels more exciting to build around.
Brepch Hivemaker and Katsi Copycat are now 5 power (were 4 power). Originally, I was scared of recursion strategies becoming too strong and too boring, just looping the same cards over and over again. But after 2 years, those strategies have barely made a blip, and at 5 power these cards are less embarrassing to put into your ship. Plus they work with odd-powers-matters abilities more easily!
Kahaz Captain now refreshes a used win-ability as a die-ability if it already went off.
Cnyr7w Energyburst now gives any random good ability to the chosen Battalien, not just one of the same species (like an Oowoo ability to an Oowoo, a Brepch ability to a Brepch, etc.) This makes it so you don't feel bad for picking one species over another, and gives greater variety in the random abilities given.
