We think Battle Suit Aces is a great game that hasn't yet reached enough people. It's a narrative deckbuilder, which is an odd genre-mashup (we have a thing for those, it seems). At the same time, roguelite deckbuilders are super popular. So we got to thinking: how do we get more players to try out a fully-voiced, character-driven deckbuilder? Let's see what we came up with:
PRICE DROP
The cost of everything has been going up, so we decided to give you a break. Battle Suit Aces will permanently cost 20% less ($20 instead of $25). Tell your Gundam-loving friends! And your friends that love Firefly, Star Trek, Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven, and Stargate. Or even just fun card battling systems for a good price. We appreciate you.
DEMO
If you're unsure about Battle Suit Aces, try the demo. It's got a slice of the prologue, a dash of optional tutorial battles, and a big helping of the Showstoppers mission. That's the one where Patchworks attends the 13th Orbital Suit Gala while trouble stirs beneath the drinks and glamor. And where Blue Crest shows off a bit of its ancient power.
ROGUELITE DECKBUILDER
This has been a labor of love for us. In fact, Battle Suit Aces actually started as a roguelike deckbuilder, so this transformation felt very natural. Along with our Discord community, we've been building this mode to be full of lore, new cards, and exciting combos.
You can play the new mode as a fresh player or after saving the galaxy in Campaign. And when you feel ready, take on players on the leaderboards in Daily Runs. Oh, and there are new ships to unlock with custom abilities, special shiny editions of your cards, and new achievements!
Map
There are over 10 node types to visit as you travel across the 3 sectors of Moonrise Runner. The obvious ones help you construct your deck for that run while taking into account your ship's abilities and health, your deck's weaknesses and strengths, and which cards have Damaged Frames from the last battle. Those types of nodes include the Shop, Pick-A-Drone, and different Mod nodes. You'll also get to recruit a Pilot after each Battle you survive.
As you get farther into a run, you might need to some more speciality nodes. Consider adding a bonus mod slot to a card to make it exceptionally powerful, repairing your ship and any Damaged cards, or transforming a regular card into its Shiny edition.
Shiny Cards
To give you a little extra hope when facing the horrors of the galaxy, you'll sometimes find Shiny editions of Pilots, Drones, and even Command Cards. These can have inflated base stats, lower costs, bonus status effects, and more powerful ability values. And sometimes their pilots will even try on different outfits from the Campaign. Just a little gift from our Pholian pals.
CAMPAIGN
Of course, this patch doesn't neglect the base game, which has an 89 on Metacritic, by the way! There's lots of updated art, projectile VFX, and sound effects. And a zillion bug fixes and tweaks. Here are some fun ones that existing players might understand:
Increased the difficulty of Daring and added temporary Damaged status to downed cards.
Crab and Needleback have been slightly nerfed.
Attacks with extra effects display an extra spiky icon for at-a-glance clarity.
Drone mod Exhaust Redirector no longer triggers multiple times when the drone also has Repeater.
Taro's passive now triggers correctly and applies his buff to the card replacing him.
Mirabell now Marks enemies instead of teammates when given Hunter's Sight (oops).
Drone mod Rallying Cry now works as expected.
Fixed some cards behaving oddly when Discarded, like Murchad, Squall, and Taro.
Fixed Soyul refusing to be recruited when playing in Simplified Chinese.
Rapid Deploy now works correctly even when you have only one type of card remaining to draw.
Cooldowns on Attacks now show up correctly in the Hangar.
Scramble can no longer permanently prevent cooldown-based abilities from triggering.
Fixed an issue with the Finding Red episode that resulted in no enemy cards after the mid-battle narrative beat.
Passive abilities now always finish before End of Turn consequences.
The Command Point counter works correctly when item passives manipulate it.
Improvements made for super widescreen aspect ratios.
Victory and Your Turn banners are now centered again.
Prevent double-playing of Command Cards.
Popup text typewriter is faster and clearer.
