Hey folks!
As you might know, Omno changed my life in ways I could never have expected. After finishing it, I began working on Kibu as my next larger project. Kibu is still very much a work in progress (currently on hold), but for a long time I was trying to make it fill the enormous footprint Omno had left behind.
It couldn’t - and eventually I realized that perhaps it never should have had to.
The growing scope, expectations (at least in my head), and constant feature creep slowly took the joy out of making it. At some point, I found myself dangerously close to losing my way creatively.
Smoky Sails began as a break from all of that. And, in a way, as a small form of 'creative therapy'.
I wanted to make something compact, playful, and deliberately uncomplicated. A project where I could simply shake out ideas without constantly wondering whether everything was ambitious or meaningful enough.
There are no character animations for a protagonist, which is a rather strange experiment for someone who originally came from animation. The scope is manageable, the gameplay loop is simple, and the whole thing does not take itself too seriously. It is a small game, but it has been genuinely fun to make. And despite its modest size, I am quietly rather proud of it:
You sail, fight naval battles, collect and sell loot, upgrade your ship, and hunt for treasure among uncharted islands. Smoky Sails is now available to wishlist: Smoky Sails, full trailer and Steam page If it looks like your kind of game, I would be incredibly grateful for a wishlist - even if it is simply your way of supporting me and whatever strange little things I decide to make next. ❤️
