Hello everyone! This month we have released two bug fix patches for the beta, and worked on the playable corvette.
Updating the beta version
Early this month, we released a patch for the beta that fixes the level editor and Steam workshop. Today we have released a patch for the beta that fixes issues with the player management tools. This version is available in the test branch, and will be moved to the beta branch in 1 week, barring any major issues.
These are the changes:
In the crew menu, instead of a kick and a ban button next to the player, there is a demote and a manage button. The demote button instantly demotes the player to passenger. This will kick the player off any station that they are on, and make them unable to interact with things in the u-boat. The manage button will display a dialogue box, with the options to ignore, kick or ban the player. This way it is possible to quickly act against malicious players, but you will not ban or kick someone from your game by accident.
The game now shows the ping of all players in the player management menu. Pings are sent out every 10 seconds, and the server checks the time it took for the client to reply. Ping values are shown in milliseconds.
The clients now measure the time it took since their last network message from the server. If more than 10 seconds pass between messages, a warning is shown on the screen. The client still needs to manually disconnect by pressing escape and choosing leave server. This should prevent a player from being kicked by an extreme lag spike, but still allow them to detect disconnections.
The server automatically drops clients that have not replied to messages for more than 30 seconds when they are in game, and 5 minutes when they are loading level data.
The Corvette
This month we have made another version of the bridge to accommodate the radar tower and AA guns needed for the late-war corvette. We have moved the Asdic-hut back to give the bridge a bit more space for equipment. We have also made great progress in creating the Asdic equipment itself.
Summer vacation
The team is going on vacation over the summer. During this time, the latest patch for the beta version will be available in the beta branch. If no major problem is found with it during our time away, we will move it to the main branch, and after this we will dedicate all of our time to the new open world version of Wolfpack.
