Chess Summer Update: Play Online With Friends — Chess News

The Summer Update is here for Chess on Steam.

You can now play online through Steam. Start a quick online game, invite a Steam friend, or join a friend who invites you. For this first online beta, games use no time limit so you can play at a relaxed pace while we gather feedback and keep improving the experience.

This update also adds:
- 777 new Chess puzzles.
- A new soccer background for the 2026 world tournament season.
- A new soccer player avatar for soccer fans.
- Steam Rich Presence, so friends can see when you are playing online.
- New Steam achievements for trying online play.

Online play is still new, so your feedback really helps. Please try a few games, invite a friend, and let us know how it feels.
