- New: Legendary Difficulty (Experimental): A new AI, PersephoneBeta, was
added that significantly improves upon DionysusAlpha, the AI you played against until now. It
is still experimental, and may not perform as well on all maps, or might make some campaign
maps impossible. As part of this, "Legendary" difficulty was added to Athena Crisis, which is
unlocked upon completing the main Athena Crisis campaign once (this was backfilled for people
who already finished the campaign). Please share any feedback as you play through on
Legendary so we can improve the AI further!
- Rewards: If you beat a map in Legendary, you will receive a chaos star once per
map. If you finish the main Athena Crisis campaign in Legendary, you will receive a nice
glow-up on your user profile and a "Legendary Commander" tag. Legendary difficulty is
available for official campaigns, and campaign creators can opt-in for their campaigns if it
is a fit for their campaigns.
- Surprise! There is a brand new gameplay feature when you play in Legendary! You
will definitely notice it as you replay the campaign!
- Choose your AI: As part of adding new AIs, you can now also set which AI is used by
a bot in the Setup panel in the Map Editor, or pick the AI you'd like to play against when
creating a new game.
- Rewards: If you beat a map in Legendary, you will receive a chaos star once per
- New: Mist I added a new fog implementation that has pretty animated mist clouds.
The new implementation uses less battery on mobile devices, and finally also works correctly
on iOS. Previously on iOS fog was just dark, now it has the same desaturation as on other
platforms. Finally!
- New: Skip Actions: Skipping messages was expanded to skip all actions. You can now
press the spacebar to skip an opponent's move. No more full reloads!
- New: Icons! Most Athena Crisis icons were updated for a more modern look. Almost
all skill icons were updated, and most skills now have a unique icon that doesn't get reused.
If you see any icons that look like they are out of place, please let me know!
- New: New map messages like "This smells like ___" and "Classic ___" and tags for
emotions, lore, taunt, predictions and vibes.
- Improved: Some animations in menus were improved to feel more fluid.
- Fixed: Map messages no longer show accidentally during animations when hovering a
field with a message.
- Fixed: Fixed an AI crash that was sometimes experienced on some curated campaign
maps.
- Fixed: Fixed some bugs related to keyboard/gamepad navigation on the main menu.
- Fixed: Notifications for winning/losing a single-player campaign game are skipped
now since they are not useful.
Among all these changes, I made further improvements to keep Athena Crisis fast, modern, and
