Hello fellow RAAAATTSSS!
I have updated the game to 1.2! I've added some new units for the first time since 1.0 launched! And I've got lots of other goodies in here for ya too.
Before I get to telling you all about them I just want to say a big thank you to all who's supported me so far on this crazy rat-filled journey. It's been amazing to see so many people enjoy a game I made and I'm truly grateful to every one of you. I poured my heart and soul into this game and it really means so much to read reviews where people mention the passion they can see and feel. Seriously, it's awesome. You guys have allowed me to not only provide for my family during a dark time but also to continue making games for you to enjoy! Rat games of course. The next one is gonna be a 2D rat city/colony management type game set in the same universe as WAR RATS. So stay tuned!
And also, if you like what I do, please do leave a positive review on Steam. It really does help. Not only to boost the algorithm but to help out people who might be on the fence about trying it.
And now on to the patch notes!
NEW RECRUITABLE UNIT: FLAMERAT
This is a specialist OldGuard infantry unit that wields a FlameRatter. They are slow and ineffective against structures but absolutely devastating to enemy infantry. They are available to be recruited in New Game Plus.
NEW ENEMY: RAT-PROPELLED HOWRATZER
The Rat-Propelled Howratzer, or RPH, is a TechnoRat unit that is fast, highly maneuverable and armed with a long range explosive laser cannon. They will sit behind the front lines and fire hot balls of death into and behind your leading troops. When approached, they will retreat back down the lane, making them slippery lil rat bastards. They can't take much damage before being destroyed though, so there's that at least. They have been added to the pool of enemies that can randomly spawn during New Game Plus missions.
NEW SPECIAL RAT: SUPPLY RAT
This rat will call in a Supply Drop for you. It will contain random ammo, health and nades and just might come in clutch.
NEW SKINS
Five new skins have been added to the game. They are:
RatPunk - A mohawk and piercings for your head. Awarded for achieving a RatPoints score of 500 or more.
Praton Pack - Who you gonna squeak? Something for your back. Awarded for clearing 2 New Game Plus runs.
Flower Crown - Perfect for Midsommar activities. Awarded for killing 600 RatTroopers.
Hood - So sneaky. Awarded for killing 25 Rat-Propelled Howratzers.
Plaid Shirt - Something something lumberjacks. Awarded for killing 2000 TechnoRat Ratineers
AIMING RETICLES
Added an option (in the Options Menu of all places. GO FIGURE) to choose a different aiming reticle design. There are now 10 to choose from! Hopefully this will help with some people not being able to see it on certain maps or for any other reason. Also, I just think it's pretty neat.
NEW UPGRADE: STASH SIZE UP
This upgrade, available at Rat Dealer's Shop, will increase the size of your Stash from 4 to 8.
Bug fixes, QoL and Polish
Added a toggle in Options to disable the particle fx on pick ups. This should hopefully help with fps issues for some.
Stash CHz transfer buttons are now able to be held down and will repeat as long as they are held down. AKA Press and hold behaviour.
Skirmish Add and Remove buttons for enemy types has also had this behaviour added.
In NG+, the Chest at the TechnoRat Base now gives out CHz based on the NG+ Difficulty Modifier you've selected instead of a single random weapon. (The higher the difficulty, the more CHz you get.)
TinkerRat now shoots 1 less Plasma Nade in Cheasy and 1 more in Hairy.
There is now text in the Stash letting you know you can upgrade it at the Shop. This will go away once the upgrade is purchased.
The sound of the Golgus attacking was in the wrong audio bus. This has been fixed.
Added new loading tips to the random pool of tips that will show up.
"Skirmish is a great way to farm CHz."
And
"In the pause menu, you can find the Codex. A place to read about everything in the game."
If Sentry Gun Damage Up upgrade was maxed out, upon loading a save and going to the shop, it would show a CHz cost even though it couldn't be upgraded anymore. This has been fixed.
Same with Nades count up.
Squee Rattington Explosive Rounds were not passing through friendlies if Pass Through option was selected. This has been fixed.
If you moved all the way to the left in the Nest and pressed the Interact key (if you had Nest Tooltips on you would see a "Coming Soon" pop up), your Lil Ratty would disappear and you'd have to go back to the main menu to load a save again to continue. This has been fixed.
Homing Ratzooka Missiles were not exploding on contact with Gunner Rats and instead bouncing off. This has been fixed.
In Horde mode, if the "WARNING! Go back!" message was on screen while the "Fall Back/More!" popped up, it would cause the mouse to not register any clicks on the pop up panel. This has been fixed.
Swapped position of the "Controls" and "Audio" sections in the Options Menu cause it just makes more sense that way round innit.
Added Shock Ratter as well as FlameRat and RPH to the Codex.
Removed references to Early Access from the Skirmish Screen.
When rats die in flames, the flame death animation had a collision shape in it that would sometimes block projectiles. This has been fixed.
And I believe that covers everything that is in this new update. A few of those bug fixes were a direct result of people contacting me and letting me know about them. So without you they wouldn't have been fixed. Please do let me know about any issues you come across. Cause I probably just don't know about them. And I can't fix what I don't know. You can do so in our Discord here: https://discord.gg/4dGc2J8BW or on the Steam discussions section. I read everything. EVERYTHING. Including the hate. Even though it breaks my heart. But I can't help it. Cause I hate myself.
I hope you enjoy the new content! And if you're new to the game I hope you enjoy it! Again, please leave a positive Steam review if you do enjoy it. Thank you!
As I said in my last patch notes, I am going to be winding down development on WAR RATS: The Rat em Up after this update. I will of course still fix any issues that come up and that I am able to fix. And I will still add the occasional thing here and there as and when any ideas come to mind. I also still plan to do a localization update. With Russian, Ukrainian, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish as the languages I intend to include at first. But otherwise I need to move on to my next game. I have too many ideas and not enough time. I want to get them out of my head and into your hands. Wait that sounds wrong. I want to blow my brains out all over you. Wait no no that's even worse. I want to have new gaming experiences for you to enjoy! There. That's the one.
So please follow me on social media (just search for "wootusart") so you can stay up to date and tell all your friends about RATS. RATS THAT WILL GNAW YOU TO DEATH FROM THE INSIDE OUT WHILE YOU STILL DRAW BREATH. WAT?
Please kill TechnoRats for me.
Regards,
Brian
