It's been a while since the last update and I wanted to let you know what the plans are for the game moving forward! Rather than a big wall of text I've made a mini FAQ to keep things easy to read.
WHERE NEXT UPDATE?
Great question! I've been hard at work on the next big update: it's still cooking and I like to make sure each update is really worth returning for rather than rushing things out too soon. My wife and I are expecting a baby in the next few weeks so I can't promise a definite timeline, but I'm still aiming for sometime this Spring. If you want to check out some of the new stuff as it gets added, I'm updating the beta branch weekly and keeping a close eye on the #beta-discussion channel over on Discord. Feel free to stop by and chat! 🦀
WHERE TONY?
Great question! As everyone knows Tony has been slumbering in his cave for quite a while now and it really is about time he wakes up....
WHEN 1.0?
Great question! I know the game has been in Early Access for a few years now and I do want to actually finish it up instead of endlessly iterating and changing mechanics. For that reason I've decided to share a list below of the things I think the game needs most to hit 1.0:
More variety in islands and improvements to how they look and play
Parkour 2.0
Tony awakening
More enemies and a big pass on enemy telegraphing and visuals
More interesting and distinct loot especially in the Legendary category
Proper final boss
New music + final soundtrack release
More weapons, abilities and melee weapons (baseball bat?)
Boring stuff (general polish and refinement, QOL features, UI improvements, better controller and Steam Deck support etc.)
When that stuff is done I'll be ready for the game to leave Early Access and fully release. The goal is to get there next year. My idea list is pretty much infinitely long (things like a Companions feature for example) but I do need to make sure that the game both gets finished and doesn't become a bloated mess. With that said feel free to comment below if there's something you'd really like to see added.
CONSOLES?
Great question! I still am planning on porting to consoles once 1.0 is out- it's much cleaner this way and allows me to spend all of my time and energy making sure the Steam version is as good as possible.
SOUNDTRACK?
Great question! Still lots of songs to be added to the game and then I think it's best to release them all together with the 1.0 launch. The soundtrack will be available to stream and also as a download on Steam.
WHAT HAPPEN AFTER 1.0?
Great question! Other than porting to consoles, I would like to release another update with any notable things that didn't make the cut for 1.0! The price of the game might increase a bit when it hits full release to reflect the content added over the years but nothing too crazy (like $5 more expensive at most).
COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
It has honestly been incredible to see such a strong community develop over the last few years so I wanted to shout out some great people!
Crab Champions Stickers 
A few months ago I was contacted by a member of the community that had been printing his own custom stickers. After he kindly sent me out a big care package of stickers, I was really impressed with the quality. He's super passionate about improving his craft and getting the details right (so many iterations finding the right materials for the prismatic stickers for example) and has been playing the game since launch so it's a genuine project from someone that knows the game, not a random cash grab- there are tons of fun easter eggs related to the game on the sticker site! I really hate asking people to buy things especially when the game is in early access so I will not be taking any cut from the profits. The breakdown of revenue received is as follows: - 50% goes to him for materials - 50% goes towards sticker giveaways for the community
As a bonus I will be matching ALL revenue made from sticker sales in the next month as a donation to the charity Crustacean Compassion. Stay tuned for a sticker giveaway over on the Crab Champions X Account in the next week or so. You can check out the stickers here if interested.
