It has been one (1) full year since the indie smash-hit record-destroying commercial failuresuccess The Candle's initial release.
I've tried my hardest to keep my initial promise and intention of never updating the game, but I've re-emerged from the ether here and there to make things a tad bit more refined for you lovely players. Notably, I added some on-screen indicators and sound effects for interactions, the ability to walk during (and skip) Count Gerald's exhaustingly long intro dialogue, subtitles to character dialogue, and an optional easy mode beta branch (with disabled steam achievements).
Today, one year after I brought this game to the world, I now add its final QOL improvements.
This has been perhaps the single most requested update since launch. The game's set volume level persists between runs and between game sessions. Hooray!!1! Also you can now set mouse sensitivity manually. Yippee!
Now you may ask: "Why did these things take so long to get fixed?"
I thought it was funny.
But now, I've had my fun. So, hopefully, this makes the game just a bit more tolerable to play (and fail at repeatedly).
Additionally, in a moment of kindness, I have decided to make The Butler not spawn during the player's first venture into the manor each run. This way, first time players won't feel so much pressure and disappointment at losing so early on into the game, but he will still be just as ominous a presence during subsequent explorations.
After this point, I will very likely not update the game ever again. The rest of the remaining difficulty and tedium of the game is fully intended and shall persist so that only the most daring players can earn the title of Elden Candle Lord.
As a final thank you and celebration of the game's first birthday, it has also been highly discounted at 50% on the store for any new players (until the 16th). I still intend on doing regular discounts as often as Steam allows me to.
Thank you for playing my game!
P.S. I am also deep into development on my next game, which will actually be fun, so stay tuned for news on that!
