OVERVIEW
✨🎮 Collection of little improvements: carried over from other editions of the game
🍎🗣️ Dialogue Audio on macOS: restored & fixed
🚂🥳 Syberia - Remastered: launches today
This update is "a little" out of sync with the build! Here are the improvements you've been enjoying for over a month 😅
✨🎮 COLLECTION OF LITTLE IMPROVEMENTS
✏️ Tutorial
When starting a new game, the awkward initial Controls Help screen asking you to choose a single input style is now gone! The new game tutorial now dynamically responds to changes in input style, just like the rest of the game does. As soon as you use a mouse, the tutorial teaches you about clicks, and as soon as you switch to using a controller it's all about button presses, etc.
Furthermore, after collecting your first item and viewing the popup inventory tutorial you will now navigate back through the Controls Help screen that you can access it from, that way you know where it lives if you need to find it again.
☎️ Who you gonna call? Mostly encountered by speed-runners and those new to the game! Whenever you interact with a telephone you get to pick a contact off the envelope that George scribbled phone numbers onto, based on who you already interacted with! But if when the game starts, you dash away from the crime scene, get escorted back to the Café, don't talk to Nico, run away again, and go to the Police Station to use the telephone, there would have been nothing on that envelope yet.
So all you see is a blank envelope, no visual back button, and no UI standard to fall back to from the original game. While you weren't stuck, it sure felt like that! Now when that happens, the auto-hint system will guide you out of there!
🔤 Text Corrections
Numerous improvements to localised game text, especially in French! Huge thanks to @imaxm on Discord for their extensive report and excellent suggestions. Here are the Greatest Hits:
Spelling Eiffel Tower correctly in French. In a game set in Paris 🗼
These absolute beauties in the intro movie (that snuck into a previous patch) 🫠

You keep us humble.
🗨️ Better Subtitles
I'm gonna level with you. A month ago when I took those notes they made sense to me, I look back on them and I'm not that person anymore.
These are the bits we fine tuned:
Display subtitle speaker name in subtitle (not interface) language This one is super useful if you chose a different language for your interface than for your subtitles! Sometimes names are localised, so you wouldn't necessarily know who's talking. Now you do!
Fix/optimise subtitle shadow rendering bug after changing language & Fixed rare black subtitle on loading a game with pre-triggered speech Both of these have to do with how shadows are created in real time by the engine - isn't that so cool? Until it gets bamboozled by the simple act of switching languages. That was mostly due to some languages having different fonts, and some other nuances that have been un-nuanced. I checked with Andy and he confirmed that's true enough.
⛰️ Endless Cliffhanger
The default experience is to play Broken Sword with Auto Play subtitles enabled. It paces the game conversations for you, and it adds to the ambiance. But some of you use Broken Sword, and other adventure games, to learn a new language, and many of you just generally don't appreciate being stressed out in a game that you're trying to relax with and feel comforted by. Whatever your reasons, we wanted to make sure you can turn off Auto Play subtitles in the settings and progress manually to the next dialogue line instead!
Now at the end of the game there is a scene that fades to black. What faded with it? The UI indicator telling you that you need to press something to continue to the next dialogue line 😭 So the game didn't crash, but without knowing that game is waiting for YOU to make a move, it sure feels like a stare down contest you didn't know you had entered. Amazing. 0/10. The game can now sense this situation and will briefly enable Auto Play subtitles until you can see again!
And speaking of speech:
You can now use skip dialogue lines using the right mouse button (as well as the left).
🍎🗣️ DIALOGUE AUDIO ON MACOS
If you are on macOS Tahoe and suddenly couldn't hear dialogue audio this issue is now resolved! Big thank you to all of you who contacted us and helped us troubleshoot over on Discord!
Turns out that the OpenAL implementation that shipped with macOS 26 didn't play any of our mono audio, which included all dialogue speech and a decent number of sound effects! Thankfully, converting them to stereo at runtime worked around this issue and restored your missing audio.
🚂🥳 SYBERIA - REMASTERED LAUNCHES TODAY
"Rediscover the clockpunk universe of Benoît Sokal in this fully remastered version of the first Syberia game. Join Kate Walker and Oscar, a strange and charming automaton, in pursuit of the brilliant inventor Hans Voralberg, and embark on an adventure more immersive and poetic than ever.” Originally released in 2002, which I'm gonna hold your hand, was over 20 years ago, this point and click adventure became an instant classic.
And guess what other game has an american lawyer who's trying to navigate French bureaucracy 😌

As well as the Syberia - Remastered launch discount, anyone who has Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged in their Steam libraries can use the Iconic Stories Retold Bundle to get an additional discount on top of that 🐐🤝🚂
Steam reviews matter so much, especially in the launch period, so if you find yourself enjoying the game a few hours in, a positive review is one of the impactful ways you can show your support, and shows the games industry that you want to see more games in those styles!
