Hi Omno fans!
It’s hard to believe it’s already been two years since I last posted here, when I first introduced my new project, Kibu, to the world. Time really flies!
For quite a while, Kibu leaned heavily into survival and crafting systems like inventory management, building, and collecting. I even had a demo nearly ready to share late last year.
But while testing a first demo, I had a wake-up moment. The game had become a checklist of needs to manage like hunger, tiredness, resource grinding, etc. and had drifted far from the core of what I wanted Kibu to be: a beautiful, immersive experience. Instead of enjoying the magical exploration and interactions with spirits, I realized players (including myself) were spending more time juggling stats than soaking in the atmosphere or connecting with the world.
So I took a step back. I stripped away the survival mechanics and refocused Kibu on the things that genuinely bring me joy as a developer: crafting beautiful landscapes, designing flowing movement, and building a sense of wonder. What started as a bit of an experiment quickly felt like the right direction. I was having fun again, hiding secrets in the environment, polishing animations, layering in little details.
Ever since, I've been committing fully to the strengths of Kibu and what made Omno special to me - the serene exploration, the sense of discovery, and the emotional connection to the world.
