We saw during Steam Next Fest that some players had questions about how to solve mysteries and wanted a few tips on progressing through Thalassa. So, we will cover all these points today in our Mysteries Deep Dive!
Thalassa Deep Dive #1 I Mysteries ❓
In Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss, Cam's goal is to find out why the S.S. Thalassa sunk. To find this information, you must step into the shoes of Cam and delve deep into the ocean on a solo mission, to visit the shipwreck sat on a seemingly endless chasm. Before discovering the mystery of the ship's fate, you must solve individual mysteries which will reveal more information about S.S. Thalassa's expedition.
Whilst exploring the shipwreck, you'll find clues in expedition plans, crew photographs, audio recordings via wax rolls, and more. When clues are gathered, the mystery menu is where you’ll piece clues together and progress through the rich narrative of Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss.
The mystery solving menu is split into three sections:
- On the left-hand side, you’ll find clues and information you’ve collected during your expedition. [1]
- Above this are the four categories of clues: main clues, objects, documents, and wax rolls. Each mystery will require a different category of clues to find the puzzles deduction. [3]
- On the right side, you have the mystery featuring a description of the mystery, the clue that triggered the mystery and the empty clue slots which of course, need clues to solve the individual mystery. To do so, select the empty clue slot, then the item you want to place. [2]
When placed clues in all slots, see if they piece together. Any wrong assumptions will be highlighted red, with correct assumptions turning gold.
At the beginning of Thalassa, you’ll be tasked with piecing two to three clues together. Deeper into the game, you’ll need to link multiple clues together to solve mysteries. In this case, it’s possible to have pieces of the assumption correct and highlighted in gold, with the mystery remaining unsolved due to errors in other areas of the mystery. Keep evaluating the information or keep exploring the S.S. Thalassa to find the remaining clues to solve the individual mystery.
When all clues are successfully pieced together, a conclusion can then be made. This will reveal the deduction result, with new clues given. These results can also bring new mysteries to solve and open new areas of the map to explore. Some conclusions will awaken scenes showing the events unfolding, but we'll leave you to see more of that in the upcoming weeks!
Our tips for completing Mysteries
- Utilise the guide text of the clues when linking clues to empty mystery slots. This text is integral to finding conclusions and if you look closely enough, can even contain puzzle solving hints.
- As you play, continue searching for clues. If you feel stuck, revisit previous areas, and remain curious. The more information you gather, the more you’ll discover about Thalassa’s unfortunate fate.
- The Map Menu can be essential for finding final clues. When viewing the map, some areas will be located as 'Crucial Areas' or 'Area of Interests'. If a room has either of these labels, clues remain in these areas. Venture back to these rooms and explore to find those final clues!
And remember, it’s all up to you to find answers onboard the wreckage. 🫡
