The Walking Trade - Patch v1.2.0
Grab your pitchforks, hoes and watering cans as it’s time to get some honest work done! Introducing the Rooftop Farm update: easily The Walking Trade’s biggest content drop to date. Lots of changes in this update so lets dive right in.
Rooftop Farming
Rooftop Access: The broken ladder in the warehouse can now be fixed via Build Mode. It requires items you can find once you reach the Junkyard. Once fixed, you have access to the rooftop and some very empty looking farming spots…
Build Your Plots: Using some unorthodox items, you can build up to 3 farming plots, each containing several planters. You will also see some other upgrades that need materials supplied to bring some quality of life to your farming shifts.
Find Seeds and Tools: Various tools and seeds have been added to landmarks across the world map. Get some, and then they can be planted into the planters.
TLC: Tend your crops by watering them, composting and scaring away ravaging crows.
New Features
Homesteading Skill: A brand new skill has been added that can be levelled by performing farming tasks such as deweeding, hoeing, composting and harvesting. The Homesteading Skill will bring improvements to various farming actions and unlock crafting recipes for previously hard to obtain food or crafting items.
New Landmarks: Once the Diner Clan have been sufficiently supplied, they will allow you to continue just outside of the city into the rural outbacks of Glassacre Woods. Here you can scavenge low tier seeds and a new tier of wood: Timberwood. Beyond the woods is the surviving farmer family of Meadowview Farm that require a small donation of fresh crops to prove yourself trustworthy to them. Once trusted, the farm can be scavenged for higher tier seeds.
Tribe Trader: Near the woods of the shop is a duo of starving tribe traders. They’d like donations of fresh food grown on your farm to access their shop full of exclusive items, new weapons, seeds and crafting recipes. They will appear once you gain access to the rooftop.
Rain Showers: Rain will now randomly occur during gameplay. When raining, your plants will not need manually watering, but you may notice slightly less customers. Additionally, zombie aggression radius is slightly reduced due to the noise of the rain.
More to Fix and Upgrade: To craft some of the new Homesteading recipes such as beer, wine, whisky and more, you’ll need a Level 4 Crafting Station. Additionally, the 4 broken streetlights can now be fixed in the carpark to keep the outside illuminated during the night, rainy spells and raids.
Achievements: More Steam achievements have been added to the game for the new content.
The End: Once all of the city raids on your store have been defeated, the city survivors have a little surprise for you. Following the end credits, you will receive 5 completionist quests in your To-Do list.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue causing raids to not register as completed when all enemies are defeated.
Customers should now pick checkouts based on queue size during longer play sessions. This was implemented previously, but new checkouts after playing a long time were not recognised.
Fixed an issue causing navigation to get stuck on the Assign Staff Job window when using a Steam Deck or controller.
Fixed an issue causing Service XP to not be given after longer play sessions.
Fixed an issue allowing some items to give endless Service XP when disposed of on repeat.
Fixed an issue causing dead zombie corpses to occasionally flash bright at certain angles.
Fixed an issue with cleaners taking items from the bedroom. You can now use the bedroom as a personal storage.
All shelved items will now remain in the shelved state between sessions.
Improvements
Staff members now have a ‘Low HP Behaviour’ setting. When attacked below 33% HP, they should enact the given behaviour:
Flee - Runs away from the shop for the entire day to recover. They cannot be recalled from the Job Board if this happens.
Find Medical Items - Attempts to search their surroundings for healing items to continue fighting. Failing this, they will resort to fleeing.
Fight to the Death - Will fight until they win or die.
Staff members will now attempt to avoid exploding and highly dangerous zombies during combat if they do not have a ranged weapon.
Staff members will only attempt to fight hulking zombies from behind.
Staff members should no longer commit any kind of friendly fire, regardless of security level.
The demolition crew will no longer take damage from Barbed Wire and Spike Wall defences.
Auto-Turrets can now aim vertically.
Auto-Turrets should no longer damage staff members accidently.
Drastically increased the range for required items when upgrading in Build Mode. This should hopefully fix items being missed during the requirement calculation.
Game time is now frozen when spinning Dr. Gib’s wheel.
Ladders can now be exited from the base.
The To-Do List can now be hidden from the HUD.
Optimised the shadows casted by items packed onto a Pallet.
Optimised physics stepping slightly reducing CPU load.
Optimised HUD interface when hovering over interactable objects.
Changes
Staff members take less damage from explosions.
The demolition crew will no longer hurt staff or customers while destroying the wall.
Increased the cost of late game scavenging locations.
Reduced the amount of some items available in World Map shops each day.
Reduced the value of some late-game items.
Reduced the quantity of some late-game scavenger location items.
Reduced the Management XP given from bulk scavenged items.
An absolute giga update as you can see. A lot of moving parts here so it’s very likely that there will be some teething issues somewhere. Please report anything to me regarding the new features, any bugs, balance changes, loading issues, frame-rate issues, achievements not popping etc. I do read all Steam discussions and community Discord posts! Stay tuned for some big news coming very soon.
Thanks again, Adam ❤️
