A New Crop: Grass
Grass is now a real crop. Pick up seeds at the agro stores or order them through the home agro magazine, then sow them with any standard seeder, any time outside of winter.
From there, grass grows at its own pace and is ready to mow after 30 days. Don't forget about it, though, because if you leave it long enough, it will wither!
A cultivated field also gives you far more grass than the wild patches around the valley, so it's well worth the effort.
While we're on the subject of fields, barley and oats now leave straw behind after harvesting.
Sun-Dried
Freshly cut grass is wet, and now it behaves that way. After mowing, it slowly dries whenever the weather cooperates, and you can watch it happen as the rows turn from fresh green to dry yellow.
You can rake grass or straw at any stage, or use the baler when it's completely dry.
The extra patience pays off. Hay bales give 100% feed value when you deliver them to the cowshed, while straw bales give only 25%. It also sells for much more than straw.
Prefer the old-fashioned way? You can still collect mowed grass by hand to feed your animals or sell.
