Regular Update v0.8.20.29.0

Balancing, Fixes and Server Optimization

Another regular update is here.

Since v0.8.20, we have been watching how the new systems behave in real gameplay, gathering your feedback, and adjusting the balance where needed.

This update focuses mainly on survival balancing, production improvements, fixes, and an important networking optimization discovered with help from the community.

World Balancing

Biodiesel Barrels

Yellow Biodiesel barrels are now less common across the wasteland.

We also decreased the amount of Biodiesel found inside them to approximately:

Dev Note

The Disney World days are over.

Biodiesel barrels were previously scattered around the wasteland so generously that there was very little reason to invest in your own Biodiesel production.

Players could keep vehicles running almost entirely from barrels found while traveling.

We want fuel management to gradually become a more meaningful part of the survival experience, where building your own refinery or finding other reliable sources of Biodiesel actually matters.

Production Building Balancing

We continue gathering feedback about the recently reworked production system and are already making balancing adjustments.

Iron Sheet Production

Metal Production Shack

Scrap Production

This allows players to operate more production buildings with a smaller Grandshack population while keeping the overall material output under control.

Bio-Diesel Makeshift Refinery

Building your own fuel infrastructure should now become a more meaningful alternative to relying on barrels scattered around the world.

Trading

Fixes and Optimization

Storage Interaction

Grandshack

In affected cases, resources could be reduced to approximately:

Networking

Important Memory Leak Fix

We fixed a memory allocation leak that could affect servers during longer running sessions.

This one also deserves a special community mention.

Huge thanks to Haikyatto, who contacted us through Discord after noticing suspicious memory behavior while running his own Plains of Pain server.

His initiative gave us useful additional information and pushed us to investigate the networking and server memory behavior more deeply.

During that investigation, we eventually identified the actual source of the problem in a different part of the system and fixed it.

So while the final cause was not exactly where the original suspicion pointed, Haikyatto’s determination to dig into the problem, collect information, and reach out to us definitely earned our respect.

Servers should now run more smoothly during longer sessions.

This is exactly the kind of community interaction we appreciate. Players report what they observe, we investigate it from the development side, and together we keep making Plains of Pain better.

Thank you, Haikyatto.

Greetings from the Czech Republic to the Chicago zone.

Thank You

Thank you everyone for continuing to test, report, discuss, and help us improve Plains of Pain update by update.

We keep reading your feedback and turning as much of it as possible into balancing changes, fixes, and new improvements.

If you enjoy seeing the wasteland getting better with every update, leaving a Steam review is one of the best ways to help more survivors discover Plains of Pain ❤️

And remember

This is just the beginning.
