Over the past several weeks, we’ve shared our plans, talked through our priorities, and given you a behind-the-scenes look at the work happening across the Backyard. Now it’s game day!
Patch 1.1.0.19.1 is one of our biggest updates yet, bringing improvements to gameplay, League Play, presentation, quality of life, and much more. Every change reflects our ongoing commitment to make the game feel smoother, deeper, and even more true to the sandlot experience so many of us grew up loving.

🧢 IMPROVEMENTS (Game Polish, Balance Changes, and Features)
⚾ Gameplay & Strategy
Improved CPU fielder decisions when defending home base on ground balls.
Improved base coverage logic across multiple play types.
Improved cursor selection consistency when picking fielders near the top of the field compared to the bottom.
Baserunners now commit more strongly to a base when close to reaching it.
Improved baserunner tag-up decisions and behavior.
Added bindings for quickly switching between Left and Right batting stances.
Added a Team Strategy Toggle that lets you preview your opponent's tactical setup.
Added player badge details to the Pause Menu, including Hot Streak, Stealer, Power Hitter, and letter grades.
Updated the stamina bar to read more accurately.
Reduced pitch speed on Difficulty 1.
Difficulty 2+ now punishes repeated pitches to the same spot.
Batters now learn and adapt to your pitching over the course of a game.
Mr. Clanky now only pitches inside the strike zone in Backyard Bash.
Baserunners no longer advance unprompted.
Adjusted each field's starting fielder positions away from the wall, opening up more doubles and triples.
Auto-assign now sockets both player and CPU fielders into their best positions based on team strategy.
Screaming Line Drives now knock fielders off their feet on a collision or catch attempt.
Hitting the back left lamppost at Playground Commons now counts as a home run, and a ball hitting the backstop and bouncing back into play is now called foul.
Classic mode pitch locations are now randomized within the pitch spot.
The default Backyard Derby timer is now 90 seconds.
Presets now set your options automatically - Classic defaults to Errors On with Classic music, Modern and Tee-Ball to Errors Off with Modern music.
Added unforced errors, including overthrows on fumbled throws and balls deflecting off fielders.
Updated the dumpster colliders at Cement Gardens so the ball no longer floats when it lands on top of them.
Added Auto Fielder Placement, which positions fielders optimally based on their stats for both player and CPU drafts.
The CPU pitcher now waits for the batter to finish selecting a swing type before pitching.
Separated wall bounciness from ground collision physics for more precise ball bounce behavior.
Balanced and fine-tuned player stats like Stamina, Speed, Aggression, Arm and Eye attributes.
Team presets now save all of your data.
Balanced AI defense so stealing bases is more challenging.
CPU runners now commit to the next base once they decide, with manual input still overriding.
The gamepad left stick now reads diagonals while baserunning instead of snapping to four directions.
Small accidental gamepad nudges no longer move a runner, and ambiguous pushes do nothing.
AI fielders can now throw short on cross-diamond throws, so the pitcher is no longer used as a cutoff.
Reworked AI timing predictions across relay men, ball travel time, and runner time to base.
CPU fielders now take different paths to the catch position based on difficulty, EYE stat, and ball height.
Overthrows now sail above the target fielder's head, and fumbled throws behave consistently.
Added a new unforced error where balls can hit the kids.
Moved the Wiggle Ball out-of-bounds zone away from the foul line so Ground Rule Doubles no longer trigger early.
Added League Leaders in the Dugout, opponent preview via Team Strategy Toggle, and player badges with letter grades to the Pause Menu.
Added a classic and modern swing spot indicator.
Added player stat boost indicators to pre-game screens within the Team Strategy menu.
⚾ League Play, Statistics & Achievements
Added a League Leaders screen, reachable from the Team Lineup in the Dugout, that ranks top stats across all teams.
Added the ability to view statistics for every team from the Team Statistics screen.
Added a progress page in the Record Book showing what is still locked.
Added a UI element showing the current difficulty in League Play.
Added an MVP indicator to the Statistics screen.
Added an indicator showing which team is CPU-controlled and which is player-controlled.
Added a button to quickly access the Achievements screen.
Reordered and reorganized achievements across Record Book pages.
Updated Steam achievement icons to match the in-game achievement icons.
League Play now simulates statistics for games that are not played.
Added world-building elements to the League Play calendar, including extra events and flavor text.
League Play teams are now built from four Backyard Baseball kids and five generic kids, giving each CPU team its own strengths and weaknesses.
Added League Play notifications and a league ticker.

Added new Misophonia Audio Settings in the audio menu for customizable sound comfort.
Added a Pitcher Change callout sound effect.
Added batter intro commentary for the remaining Backyard Derby characters.
Added a Random option to time-of-day settings during League Setup.
Added toggles for several player-facing options and added a Save Options button to the Options and Team Strategy menus.

Fixed a softblock after the first player's strikeout in local multiplayer Backyard Derby.
Fixed baserunners being tagged out while returning to a base during a foul ball.
Fixed the Away team's field positions changing and the 1B fielder spawning in front of the pitcher after loading a save in Wiggle Ball.
Fixed CPU pitchers performing Intentional Walks with the setting disabled.
Fixed fielder placement arrows not being retained after loading a saved game.
Fixed batters and baserunners only advancing one base on a Ground Rule Double in Wiggle Ball, as well as runners taking three bases improperly at Cement Gardens and Sandy Flats.
Fixed a delayed transition to the next batter walk-up after a Ground Rule Double at Sandy Flats, and resolved issues where the batter and runner ended up on the same base.
Fixed a case where a Shortstop covering 2B would bail from the base once manual control was released.

Fixed the Ball Loose indicator activating on ground bounces instead of dead velocity, and updated the ring size to match the character’s catch radius.
Fixed the pitcher incorrectly showing the “Select” indicator at the start of the fielding phase.
Fixed runners taking a lead on infield line drives expected to be caught, force runners waiting on fly balls, and commanding a runner to return during a fly-ball lead improperly sending them forward.
