Different ammunition types offer different balances of penetration and cavity size, allowing you to adapt to the animal, the situation, and the shot you need to make. Whether you want to cover a wider range of species or fine-tune your setup for more precise shot placement, choosing the right ammo can make all the difference.
This is an early look at the system, and we want to hear what you think. Try Ammo Change on the Experimental Branch and leave us your feedback!
Keep in mind that unlocking different calibers and ammunition types takes time. To make the most of your testing period, don't forget to import your save from the Default Branch to the Experimental Branch. This will give you access to your existing progress and allow you to spend more time testing the Ammo Change system.
Heads-up: Please don't bring save files from Experimental back to the default branch, it could cause issues. We recommend keeping your saved files backed up.
If you'd like to join the Experimental branch with the ammo change feature, head over here for more info on how to access the Experimental branch:

KNOWN ISSUES
- If you equip a rifle, you also have to manually equip ammo for it (otherwise you'll carry a rifle with no ammo). The full release should have an "Autofill" button that allows you to do it quickly, but the one on experimental branch will require players to fill each slot manually.
- We allow players to carry any ammo, regardless of whether or not they are carrying a compatible weapon. UI to communicate that the ammo/weapons you are carrying are/aren't mutually compatible will be added for the full release. For now, there will be a wider margin for user error.
- Each weapon has one ammo type that's default and free. Right now, it's free to claim in the Shop. In the full release, we plan to just have it in player's Storage permanently and with an infinite amount, to remove the extra steps of having to go claim them.
- Bows and crossbows are not supported. This will also be added to the full release.
- There is no ammo for CVA Cascade LRX rifle.
- Player cannot switch between “Lewellings MagWave Buffed" and "Lewellings MagWave".
- Ammunition name does not change in the radial menu. Additionally, the radial menu always displays the name of the 1st ammo for each particular weapon.
- Opening storage does not refill free ammo automatically.
- When the player loads into Canada for the 1st time (after tutorial) they have no ammo equipped. Also, there is no information they should buy ammo in the shop.
