Hey Elysians!
We are incredibly excited to finally welcome the release of the new Tempest Update, otherwise known as v0.20.0 which features Rain and Weather Systems!
This update represents a major step forward for the game as it changes the way you approach your travel in Elysium, while also bringing general improvements and changes based directly from the feedback we received from you all.

Rain now interacts directly with your ship and everything on it. Wet ship pieces and stored items gain weight and drag, certain stations can be inoperable if they're soaked through, and the world gets a moodier, rainy atmosphere to match. This introduces a new approach to your flight on the airship as you explore the world and need to make decisions on the fly on how to build and structure your airship to withstand these conditions!

“Despite joining the development team here at Loric Games midway through V0.20.0's development, I feel a strong sense of pride and excitement for this update. I hit the ground running working to catch up on the teams goals for this update and what was needed to cross the finish line. The excitement and passion was palpable with ideas flowing throughout the process. We wanted this update to feel big and FUN. Part of that was leaning into the survival aspects of Echoes of Elysium. We wanted rain to be not only pretty and immersive, but another layer of challenge. Accruing wetness, ship pieces with varying coverage amounts, and added weight really push the need for thoughtful ship design and security. You don't want a leaky ship!
We hope players have fun with this new update and can't wait to see their reactions!"

In addition to introducing weather systems, we’ve also added several new UI improvements that highlight key information about your airship. All these improvements will make interacting with the game’s systems feel more intuitive.
Weight Indicators will show how much each component contributes to the ship’s total weight
Fuel Indicators identify the type of fuel a station requires
Flight Statistics provide key performance data, showing how individual pieces affect the airship’s overall performance
Wetness Indicators show how each component is affected by changing weather conditions
With these updates in place, let’s take a closer look at the full list of patch notes below!

Rain
Per-biome weather events
Each biome has its own separate cycle and rate of weather events
Ship gains a wetness status indicator while in rain, and dries out once the rain stops
Wet ship pieces gain weight which slows the ship down and reduces crafting speed
Encumbrance bar now reflects the added weight from water on ship pieces
Ship pieces provide varying levels of cover for stations (invention desk, crafting table, etc.); build menu tooltips show coverage amounts
Stored items also gain weight from rain
Certain stations become inoperable if completely soaked
New rain SFX for both inside and outside the ship
Rain adds moody atmosphere to the experience
New status effects for wetness on ship pieces
Ambient lighting profiles for varying levels of rain
Wind
Wind is stronger and more variable
Sailing against and with wind has more of an impact
New wind SFX
Rebalancing
Thrusters, sails, and weight have all been rebalanced with wetness/added weight and wind in mind
Bugs & QOL
Improved UI changes
Fixed Scrap Metal piles spawning underground
Improved tooltips in build mode and on stations, now showing more details like weight and speed
Adaptive Musical Scores & Spatial SFX
Music reimagined and tied more dynamically to your journey, adopting a more sparse and intentional cadence rather than a continuous loop
Added variation to sound cues such as airship, constructs, and player actions sounds
New SFX for weather systems
Ship encumbrance bar adjustments and improvements
Encumbrance bar now shows the weight to be added to the ship if you build something, and how much weight will be removed if you destroy something
Updated fuel indicators to identify the type of fuel a station requires
Improved flight statistics to provide key performance data, showing how each individual piece affects the airship’s overall performance

🎮 V0.21.0 - Controller Support
The wait is almost over! One of our most highly requested features will be coming out soon and the final version is even stronger than ever before. We've taken the extra time to make sure the final experience is everything you've been waiting for - from incredibly smooth UI/UX transitions and sharper glyph layouts to a significantly improved building experience.
Here’s a first look at how it plays now:
“I feel like Echoes was made for controllers. From running around and picking items up to building your airship and using crafting stations, the game feels so good to the point that once it’s in there, I think I’m going to be playing the game exclusively with the controller.”
- Ray, Executive Producer
