Update 1.3.2 for Three Kingdoms Classic is now available.
This update broadly improves accessibility and screen readability when playing with only a Steam Deck or keyboard.
In the compact layout, focus navigation between the command menu, map, and right-side information panel has been reorganized for keyboard and controller input. Controls have also been improved for the start menu, battle formation screens, and officer detail action menus.
The successor selection screen has also been redesigned. The candidate list and detail panel are wider, while portraits, traits, officer evaluations, and biographies are now easier to review.
Food production differences based on city population have also been moderately increased, and AI attack and defense decisions have been improved. Siege preparation has been simplified by removing the separate troop allocation step, allowing players to focus on selecting the commander, deputy officers, and formation.
The main changes are as follows.
Steam Deck and keyboard controls have been improved.
Keyboard and controller navigation between the command menu, map, and right-side information panel is now supported in the compact layout.
Settings, Battle Training, and Replay screens in the start menu can now be operated with the arrow keys, WASD, Enter, Space, and Esc.
Fixed cases where the selection indicator could lag behind or become misaligned with rapid directional-key input.
For Steam Deck, select and launch the Gamepad with Camera Controls template as your controller layout.
Successor selection and officer information screens have been improved.
Widened the successor selection screen and candidate list, and increased portrait sizes.
Applied the same portrait frames used in other officer lists to successor candidates.
In IF Mode, the screen displays actual stats. In normal mode, it focuses on officer evaluations and biographies.
Added context-sensitive commands to the officer detail screen. Allied officers can be rewarded or transferred, free officers can be recruited, and prisoners can be recruited, released, or executed.
HUD and screen readability have been improved.
Adjusted the size of combined-effect and Faction Legacy icons so they remain on a single line in compact layouts.
When screen space is limited, combined effects and Faction Legacies are preserved while lower-priority information, such as city and officer counts, is progressively hidden.
City production and AI decisions have been adjusted.
Cities with larger populations now produce more food.
Improved AI behavior so that factions that have lost significant territory do not repeatedly launch immediate retaliatory attacks without considering their available forces.
Improved the selection of officers assigned to attacks, including attack AI and deployment decisions, so that participating officers are chosen more appropriately.
Ruler personality now affects whether surrender recommendations are accepted.
Imperial accession recommendations and explanations for refusing them now better reflect the actual requirements.
Advisers can now report officers awaiting an appointment and directly recommend and grant suitable offices.
Traits and related information displays have been improved.
Fixed an issue where a stratagem trait could incorrectly change into a lower-tier trait when developing.
Related trait information can now be viewed on battle, defense, and succession screens.
Siege preparation has been simplified.
Removed the separate siege troop allocation step.
Simplified the siege preparation screen so players can focus on selecting the commander, deputy officers, and formation.
Save compatibility notice
Saves from 1.3.1 and earlier versions are automatically converted to the current format when loaded in 1.3.2.
However, saves written again in 1.3.2 cannot be loaded in earlier versions.
Before reverting to an earlier game version, keep separate copies of the original save and automatic backup files before saving in 1.3.2.
Rather than adding a major new system, this update focuses on frequently used parts of the game, including Steam Deck and keyboard controls, screen readability, successor selection, and officer information.
Food production by city size and AI attack and defense decisions have also been adjusted, while simplified siege preparation improves the overall flow of campaigns.
