This update is already available on the Stable branch, with 0.21.1 full release coming within a month.

This update focuses on internal systems: the new world generator is nearly done, and logic and trains have been reworked at the engine level. Right now, a multiplayer beta is already available.

Multiplayer (alpha)

The headline of this update is multiplayer. It already works: you can open your game for online play or join an existing one through Steam and build a base together.

But for now it is beta only. There are still plenty of rough edges, and we are not taking multiplayer bug reports yet.

World generator

Map generation got a rework. Terrain height is now driven by biomes, mountains and hills have been added, transitions between biomes are smoother, vegetation spawns in clusters, and grass loading has changed. New settings have been added, and the map can be changed radically without changing the seed.

Trains and logic

Trains are in active development. The groundwork is already fully in place — multi-car consists, stations, schedules, smooth movement — but there is nothing at the gameplay level yet.

On the logic side: a new interface, wires, and wi-fi links. Projectors can be controlled by logic and have brightness, color, and position settings via the stick.

Building and environment

For building: a surface leveling tool, an undo/redo prototype, and Z-offset for blocks when placing them.

Weather got better — wind, humidity, rain post-processing, sky colors. Materials were reworked: polished steel looks better, platforms have correct roughness, copper and metals are less shiny. Machine consumption and production display was reworked and should no longer diverge from the descriptions; power consumption now shows in tooltips. Smaller things: the filtering pump is back in the new look, and the electric motor got a power boost.

What's next

The next development goals are bringing trains into the game and changing ore distribution. The new default map is flatter on purpose — for logistics and transport.
