Greetings fellow gods,

It's been a while since we had an update, so I wanted to share what we've been working on. Our next main goal for the upcoming v0.10 update is to make the world feel more alive.

Until now, settlements, the wilderness, and the people inhabiting the world have been largely static, mostly waiting for the player to act while the simulation ran in the background. The upcoming update is meant to change that. New events will unfold with or without your involvement. Dangers will spread beyond the borders of special locations. NPCs will set out on their own adventures. Together, these systems are designed to simulate a more dynamic world.

Let's take a look at what's coming.

Settlements With Stories

Settlements are receiving an entirely new event system — one that introduces opportunities and unexpected challenges throughout every campaign.

Some events celebrate prosperity. Others test your ability to respond to emerging crises. You might be asked to organize supplies for a local festival, support craftsmen by producing valuable goods, or deal with dangerous situations unfolding just outside the settlement borders.

Certain events reshape the world, creating temporary locations to explore, with unique objectives and rewards. Others escalate into chains, where the outcome depends on whether the settlement receives the help it needs.

Ignoring a crisis may leave lasting consequences. Resolving it successfully can reward the town with temporary bonuses - improved productivity among other benefits. Every decision contributes to the evolving story of each settlement.

The World Fights Back

Hostile locations are no longer isolated threats.

Many world events are connected to activity beyond settlement borders. Starting with v0.10, those dangers may escalate into direct attacks. Enemy forces may launch organized raids against nearby settlements, forcing you to defend your citizens from casualties, destruction, and looting.

This gives military forces a much greater strategic role. Maintaining capable defenders is only half the equation - keeping the surrounding wilderness under control is just as vital. Clearing dangerous locations before they become a serious threat can mean the difference between a thriving settlement and a struggling one.

The frontier is no longer just a place to seek adventure. It's now part of your settlement's fight for survival.

More Weather Types

The world itself is becoming more dynamic.

Regional weather systems now move across the map - thunderstorms, sandstorms, and scorching heatwaves - transforming both the atmosphere and the challenges awaiting travelers.

Alongside these environmental effects, the wilderness gains its own dynamic events. Wildlife migrations, regional encounters, and other natural phenomena ensure that no two expeditions feel the same.

The wilderness is no longer a static backdrop. It changes over time, rewarding players who stay aware of what's happening beyond their settlements.

It's not just the weather that may surprise you in the wilderness, as it will have its own set of events. All I'll say for now is beware of the migrating horde of kangaroos.

Call For Adventure

Not every expedition will belong to you.

NPCs in each settlement will soon be able to assemble their own adventuring parties with their own goals and head out into the world. They'll explore dangerous locations, battle monsters, gain experience, and build their own stories without your input.

This introduces a new layer of unpredictability. The area you may have intended to explore might already be targeted by another party, changing the situation before you arrive. Instead of existing solely for the player, the world will evolve or devolve on its own.

Update When?

This is the final major update from our Roadmap before the stable 1.0 release, so I'm taking my time. Balancing so many interconnected mechanics is an ongoing process, and we'll continue refining them as development moves forward. Some features are still being polished, while others will continue to evolve further in future updates. We're currently in the testing phase of the update to get a feel for the new changes, with additional content being added as we move along.

We're making good progress, and I'm excited to bring v0.10 to you in the coming weeks. I hope these additions will make your adventures into the wild feel a lot more exciting.

Let us know what you think and what you hope to see in this update. After the events system is introduced, we'll return to more regular updates again.

I hope you'll enjoy Soulash 2 in its extended form soon,

Artur
