The Vanguard Outpost
It's been a while since I wrote another devlog on the progress of Tunguska 2: Whitefall! During this past months I was building out the beginning quests in the Vanguard Outpost, where you'll start off the game as a guard amidst a faction crisis.

And I think I must have some issues, because somehow I spent a lot of effort building the bathroom xD
New Weapon Durability System
While designing the quests, I came up with the idea of a more in-depth weapon durability system for Tunguska 2, so I quickly coded it up and revamped the weapons database. Basically, instead of having just a "Durability" that dictates the gun's performance, there are now four pieces of the puzzle:
Maintenance (cleanliness, sharpness etc.)
Weapon part 1 (Barrel for guns, Edge for melee)
Weapon part 2 (Receiver for guns, Body for melee)
Weapon part 3 (Body/Frame for guns, Handles for melee)
Each weapon part has its own condition with 50% being a repair threshold, meaning you can't repair a part beyond 50% if it's under it. To get past the threshold for a gun, you must find another gun of the same caliber and family and swap out the parts. For melee, you must find another same weapon and combine them. For example, if your AKM receiver is too beaten, and you found a Groza with a better receiver, you can break down the Groza and put the receiver into the AKM. Sure - not exactly like this in real life, but definitely better than having to find another AKM :)
Each weapon part also affects the weapon's performance in its own way. For example, the barrel affects Ballistics (Damage, Range, Muzzle Velocity) and Precision (Accuracy, Recoil, Critical Hit), and the actual values of these stats on the gun item will reflect the impact of weapon part condition.
Maintenance affects the weapon's overall performance on top of the parts condition and can be improved with weapon repair kits (cleaning). If the weapon's maintenance is neglected, using it will start to reduce the parts condition permanently.
Why going through all this trouble? A few reasons:
More incentive to break down loot instead of hoarding them
Bye-bye Mad Mechanic anomaly!
Harsher consequences of neglecting repairs
More conscious decisions (should I repair this part or that part?)
Paves the way for weapon customization
