New to FPV flying or first steps in the simulator? Here are the fundamentals to help you take off smoothly and build solid skills from day one.
1) Start slow: learn to hover & stay in control
Every real or virtual FPV pilot begins with the same fundamentals: stability and control.
Before attempting fast lines or challenging gaps, spend a few minutes getting comfortable with:
Keeping the drone steady
Adjusting throttle without gaining or losing too much altitude
Making small, smooth stick movements
Flying in one direction without drifting
It may feel simple, but mastering these basics early makes everything else easier.
Speed comes from control, not the other way around.
2) Use beginner friendly maps
Uncrashed includes several large, open maps that are perfect for new pilots.
Look for environments with:
Wide open spaces
Simple structures
Fewer obstacles
Clear lines of sight
These maps let you experiment freely without crashing every few seconds. Once you feel more comfortable, you can gradually move toward tighter spots and more advanced freestyle environments.
Even on large maps, try to stay close to the ground rather than climbing too high during takeoff. Flying low helps you:
Develop throttle control
Improve your sense of speed
Build essential muscle memory
Once you feel comfortable staying low, making smooth turns, and holding a steady line, you can slowly move toward tighter spots and more advanced freestyle environments.
3) Crash, learn and train with intent
In a simulator, crashing is completely normal, especially during your first hours. Instead of getting frustrated, treat every crash as a quick reset and a new attempt. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s consistency.
Try to identify what you struggle with, and focus on it intentionally. For example, if turning left feels harder than turning right… practice more left turns. Small, targeted exercises help you progress much faster.
4) Practice short sessions, but often
FPV training works best with frequent, short sessions.
Instead of flying 2 hours once a week, try 15 to 20 minutes per day.
Your brain builds muscle memory much faster with regular practice.

Consistency
Smoothness
Line reading

5) Keep practicing races without a time objective
It’s tempting to start timing your runs right away, but early on, focusing on speed can slow down your learning.

Master the basics first, and the timer will take care of itself later.
